About
Explores the science behind industrial explosions, starting with a deep dive into the explosion pentagon and the conditions required for a deflagration to occur. We will review industries at risk (grain handling, metal processing, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals), examine common initiating events, ignition sources and how ignitable concentrations form and propagate through equipment and pipelines. The program will also highlight the risks of secondary explosions and include key protection and prevention strategies to mitigate risk.

Brian Edwards, PE

Brian has a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Georgia Tech, and he is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 25 years of experience as a consultant to industry. Brian is the Global Explosion Protection Consultancy Manager at Fike, where he uses his decades of experience managing combustible dust hazards to assist their customers. He is a member of NFPA and is currently a principal member of NFPA's Correlating Committee for Combustible Dust, which oversees NFPA 660.

Jim Vingerhoets
Explosion Safety Consultant, Fike Corporation
Jim Vingerhoets has been with Fike since 2007 and is currently an Explosion Safety Consultant for Fike Europe. Based in Fike’s European office in Herentals, Belgium, Jim is an active working member of European Standardization Committee CEN TC 305 WG3. He has coordinated multiple research activities and equipment qualification tests at several international test sites and lectures regularly on the subject of dust and gas explosion protection.
